\"\"The project <\/span>NEW ART FOR(U)M <\/b>is a <\/span>summer school organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts<\/b>. The primary aim of the school is to identify and explore alternative artistic practices within a discursive, interdisciplinary context that differs from traditional studio-based art practices and protocols. In this context, the second session of the school, held from June 22 to June 30, 2024, titled \u201c<\/span>Conceptualizing the Contemporary Soundscape: Experimental Practices in a Visual Context<\/b>\u201d, focuses on sound as a platform for creative conceptualization and interpretation of interdisciplinary artworks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Participants in the summer school had the opportunity to become acquainted, both theoretically and practically, with the operation of portable sound-recording devices, microphones, and their use in accurately capturing the surrounding space, as well as with basic techniques of sound\/noise processing, mixing, and editing using appropriate software solutions. Through this process, participants were guided and trained to begin thinking about sound and sonic phenomena as elements that can be used in\/for the creation of sound images and ambient soundscapes as independent artworks, as well as components of more complex interdisciplinary works.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

By becoming familiar with the basic concepts of sound and noise, participants were also introduced to the elements of the soundscape, as a step toward expanding their individual perceptual field beyond the established frameworks of visual expression and creation. This included defining the soundscape as a sonic image of the individual perception of the immediate acoustic environment, and further creating sound images as reflections of the artist\u2019s inner experiences. All of this served as a series of steps toward increasing awareness of the sonic environment and, subsequently, of sound pollution.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the completion of the field activities of the summer school (production), the created materials\u2014depending on the needs of the conceived objectives (artworks)\u2014underwent a process of post-production (technical and artistic refinement) in order to be appropriately used in accordance with the defined goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The final session of the Summer School was the organization of an exhibition. All works created during the Summer School were presented at an <\/span>exhibition held at the FFA Gallery from March 5 to March 26, 2025.<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The project was supported by IKSSA funds of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (UKIM)<\/b>, EU House, and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.<\/span><\/p>\n
