IRO Mission

The International Relations Office (IRO) stimulates, informs, and supports UKIM community in its endeavours to build compatibility to EU model of university, especially following the Bologna principles and general objectives.

The IRO ensures pro-active follow-up of international educational projects, by providing relevant information about opportunities for financing and potential project partners; by giving guidance to staff who are writing and submitting project proposals; by giving feed-back on evaluation and selection; and by giving practical and technical support during the implementation of projects and during the reporting phase towards the donor organisations. Support goes first of all to projects fitting in the framework of the European educational and research programmes, such as TEMPUS, FP6, FP7, INTERREG, DAAD.

The institutional international cooperation is a important segment of UKIM membership of international organisations (EAIE, EUA, IAU) and over 70 bilateral cooperation agreements with universities all over the world. These agreements function as an institutional policy tool to support the participation in the European and international educational programmes. This goes also for the multilateral cooperation with the University networks (Uniadrion, BUN, CEEUN,CIRCEOS) in which UKIM plays an active role.

The responsibilities of the IRO include also the responsiblity for the institutional support of international mobility.

An intense interaction between the IRO and the faculties and individual staff, in which a top-down and bottom-up approach are combined, forms the thread throughout the above-mentioned activities. This also goes for the international network creation.

The IRO maintains relations with international organisations and (higher) education institutions and is constantly searching for new cooperation opportunities – often starting from informal contacts. A lot of attention is paid to setting up and maintaining networks (such as the UNICA), which easily results in the creation of new projects.
