The Noticing app was presented – an award-winning tool in the British Council's ELTons international awards.

On 25 February, a presentation was held in the Rectorate of the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje on a completely different use of artificial intelligence in education: the newly-created application Noticing, a tool – winner of the British Council's international ELTons award for the innovative use of technology in the field of education.

The event, which was attended by representatives of the university community, was opened by the Pro-Rector for Teaching, Prof. Dr Sonja Topuzovska, who in her address emphasised that the web application Noticing is the result of such a drive to involve the teacher in developing an AI-based solution, but one that is pedagogically repositioned: students are to be active agents in the knowledge-creation process, not passive observers.

A detailed explanation of what Noticing is and how it is used is provided by its creators: Professor Dr Elena Onchevska Ager, a full professor of methodology at the Faculty of Philology "Blaže Koneski", and her husband, Matthew Ager, a PhD in applied mathematics and a software engineer.

Noticing uses AI to deepen the complex processes of reflection, planning and research in teaching by simulating a conversation with a mentor. Noticing does not generate ready-made solutions, but rather helps teachers to arrive at their own, well-considered solutions. The application has been used for the second academic year in the context of training future teachers at the Faculty of Philology 'Blaže Koneski', as well as for profiling.
