The Expert Council for Doctoral Studies coordinates doctoral studies. As part of this coordination:

  • to provide an opinion to the Rectorate and the University Senate on doctoral study programmes proposed by the University's units and affiliated members which conduct higher education in the field of doctoral studies;
  • is responsible for ensuring the quality of doctoral studies;
  • It is responsible for connecting existing and promoting new doctoral studies, particularly for the accreditation of study programmes in English;
  • to provide an opinion to the Rectorate on the admissions competition for doctoral studies, based on the proposals from the units and affiliated members that conduct higher education for doctoral studies;
  • confirms the final list of admitted students for the doctoral studies entrance competition, by study programme;
  • Upon the proposal of the units and of the affiliated members conducting higher education for doctoral studies, it confirms the list of available supervisors, which is an integral part of the competition for the enrolment of students in doctoral studies.;
  • Upon the proposal of the units that organise the study programmes, it confirms the list of elective subjects for acquiring generic knowledge and research skills;
  • Coordinates the teaching of subjects for the acquisition of generic knowledge and research skills.;
  • Upon the recommendation of the study programme organisers, it confirms the list of lecturers who teach the subjects for acquiring generic knowledge and research skills from the university's list of elective subjects for third-cycle studies.;
  • draws up an annual academic calendar for the implementation of doctoral studies at the University School of Doctoral Studies;
  • designates a member of the Expert Council for Doctoral Studies, who belongs to the relevant field of scientific research, to participate in the annual conferences;
  • is responsible for the implementation of this Regulation, for which it adopts guidelines and other general and individual acts;
  • in cooperation with the units and affiliated members that conduct higher education for doctoral studies, maintains a register of study programmes, programme organisers, mentors, teachers of generic knowledge and skills, enrolled students and the like;
  • prepares appropriate analyses and submits proposals to the Rector for the improvement of the quality of the implementation of doctoral study programmes;
  • gives consent to the act of organising joint study programmes with other units and with other universities;
  • establishes the standards for the preparation of a doctoral thesis and its abstract;
  • is responsible for the quality of doctoral studies;
  • performs other duties as stipulated by this Regulation and duties entrusted to it by the University Senate and the Rector of the University.
