50 years of Macedonistics at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow

On 14 May 2025, at the Institute of Slavic Philology of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Republic of Poland, a significant jubilee was solemnly celebrated – the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Chair of Macedonian Language.
The ceremony represented a moment of pride and recognition for the Macedonian language and culture, which have been studied and nurtured for more than half a century at one of the oldest universities in Europe.
The event was enriched by the presence of the Rector of the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje, Prof. Biljana Angelova, the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Prof. Dr Aleksandar Skeparoski, the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Poland, H.E. Jasmina Kahlil, Director of the Institute of Slavic Philology, Professor Maciej Czerwiński, as well as distinguished Macedonists from Poland: Professor Irena Stava-Kawka, Professor Maciej Kawka and Dr Robert Sędecki.
As part of the programme, the results of the Competition for Literary Translation from the Macedonian language were announced, and the exhibition "Visual + Virtual: A New Interpretation of the Macedonian Cyrillic" by Prof. Dr Laze Tripkov was closed.
This jubilee is a testament to the long-standing cultural and academic friendship between North Macedonia and Poland, and a testament to the continued commitment to the study of the Macedonian language within the European university space.
