Meeting with the Rector of UKIМ, Prof. Dr Biljana Angelova, and the participants of the Erasmus project: BIOMAT – Enhancing teaching competences in the design of next-generation biomaterials from wood waste.
Today, a meeting was held at the Rectorate of the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje with the Rector of UKIM, Prof. Dr Biljana Angelova, and the participants from the Erasmus project: BIOMAT – Enhancing teaching competences in the design of next-generation biomaterials from wood waste. Twelve participants in this project from the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy in Skopje, KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden) and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (Lublin, Poland) briefed Rector Angelova on the progress of this project, as well as future activities. The deepening of cooperation between these three institutions was also discussed.
The aim of the BIOMAT project is to strengthen cooperation between the partner institutions, as well as to share expertise in waste management and the innovative production of biomaterials for environmental applications. Particular attention is paid to creating innovative teaching materials for studying the use of biomaterials derived from pulp and paper industry waste, as well as fostering global innovation with diverse economic applications. As part of this project, an e-book, 'From biomass to functional materials: advances in lignin isolation, characterisation and applications', has been published. Additionally, members of the BIOMAT project were awarded a silver medal in the Green Economy category for innovation at the International Invention and Technology exhibition InnoWings 2025 in Lublin.
