On this great day, on 5 May 1945, the Macedonian alphabet was published and officially recognised by the Decree on the Macedonian Alphabet. The codification of the Macedonian language was carried out by a Decision of the ASNOM on 2 August 1944. By a Decision of the National Government of Federal Macedonia, the Cyrillic alphabet of the Macedonian language was adopted, and on 7 June of the same year, the orthography of the Macedonian language was also adopted. This was followed by the foundational works of the great figure of the Macedonian language and linguistics, Blaze Koneski: Grammar of the Macedonian Language, Dictionary of the Macedonian Language and History of the Macedonian Language, thereby completing the codification of the Macedonian language.

In that spirit, inspired by the ideals of our greats who had a clear vision for the Macedonian language, identity and culture, UКИМ, as the oldest, most successful, renowned, open and contemporary university, expresses pride in being a worthy promoter and supporter of Macedonist scholarly activity through the development and growth of the study of the Macedonian language, literature and culture.

Happy Macedonian Language Day – the pillar of our identity, our home, our homeland and our precious legacy. A legacy that can be seen as a wonderful creative and scientific research process, which future generations have the opportunity to explore, develop, research, affirm and innovate, both at home and abroad.

Ukim, in its 75-year development and rise, is a thorough researcher, a promoter and a faithful guardian of the language as the supreme national treasure and the essence of our identity and culture.
