The Artificial Intelligence Tool

The artificial intelligence tool, ChatGPT, has gone around the world at the speed of light, reaching 100 million users in just the first few months of its launch. Artificial intelligence is a rapidly developing field. It is already present in higher education, through teaching, research, and even in the administration process. Many universities across Europe and the USA have already established their own policies regarding these new developments in higher education, particularly considering that they bring challenges, as well as ethical dilemmas concerning academic integrity. Some universities are bravely embracing these new developments in the world's development, whilst others are taking a restrictive approach. It is for this very reason that UKI&M would like not to be silent on the developments that surround us, which, if they do not currently affect us to a great extent, will certainly do so in the near future. With this event, we are offering an introduction and opening a debate on this issue, which I am sure will continue long after these presentations.
Questions surrounding the use of artificial intelligence go far beyond merely generating texts for academic papers or cheating in exams. They concern the university's values at all levels, as well as exploring the new relationship between humans and machines.
As a University, we must bravely embrace and respond appropriately to the pace of development and the changes taking place in higher education, science and technological advancement worldwide, and regard this as part of our ongoing development.
By developing an academic culture based on critical thinking and an awareness of the times we live in, and by staying abreast of the workings, opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence, we should be well prepared for the future with ChatGPT.
We are opening this topic at UКИМ, as the country's university with the responsibility to be the first to raise questions on important issues, and I hope that this will also stimulate a broader debate at a national level.
