Main activity

The seminar has six main activities:

● organising and overseeing the work of the Macedonian language lecturerships abroad;
● organising a summer school with courses in the Macedonian language and lectures in the fields of Macedonian language, literature, history and culture;
● organising a winter school with courses in the Macedonian language
● organising an international scientific conference on topics of the Macedonian language, literature and culture;
● a publishing house for the needs of the lecture courses, the summer school and the scientific conference;

A little history

The International Seminar for Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture was founded on 22 December 1967.

To date, 56 summer schools and three winter schools have been held, in which more than 4,000 participants from over 60 countries have taken part,  including prominent Macedonists, professors of Macedonian language and literature at foreign universities, Slavists, Balkanists, translators, academic researchers and students studying the Macedonian language in our lectorates and at universities around the world.

In the past, the Seminar was led by:

● Bozhidar Vidoeski (1971-1977);
● Tome Sazdov (1978–1983);
● Kiril Koneski (1984-1985);
● Tomeislav Todorovski (1986–1989 and 1997–2000);
● Kosta Peev (1990-1993);
● Maksim Karankfilovski (1994-1996, 2001-2005 and 2009-2013);
● Emilija Tservenkovska (2006–2009);
● Slavica Veleva (2013 – 2019);
● Vesna Mojsova – Chepishhevska (2019-2023);
● Kristina Nikolovska (2023-present).
