• Abstract: The textbook Sports Sociology analyses sport as a significant social phenomenon that is deeply connected to culture, politics, the economy and everyday life. Rather than viewing sport merely as physical activity or competition, we should focus on the fact that sport is a social institution that both reflects and shapes social relations and values. The textbook pays special attention to topics such as power and inequality in sport, including questions of globalisation and identity, as well as the influence of sport on young people, education and the process of socialisation, and the role of sport in building collective identity and national belonging.
