Memorandum of Cooperation Signed between UKI and the Macedonian Student Rocket Team
On 26 March 2026, the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje, represented by the Rector, Prof. Dr Biljana Angelova, and the Macedonian Student Rocket Team, represented by the authorised person Luka Mitasev, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation at the premises of the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje.
The memorandum aims to strengthen mutual cooperation and utilise the scientific, professional and other resources of the University's units in order to support the Macedonian Student Rocket Team in the design, development, fabrication, testing and launch of a student rocket, as well as participation in other projects and international competitions.
The project for the design, development, construction, testing and launch of a student rocket is conceived as a multidisciplinary student platform that brings together several scientific fields – mechanical engineering, electronics, computer science, physics and materials. The project is being developed in collaboration with the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) and will take part in one of Europe's most prestigious student aerospace competitions, to be held in the Republic of Portugal.
As part of this project, students will work on the development of a complete rocket system that encompasses multiple engineering disciplines, including:
• structural and mechanical design of the rocket;
• propulsion system (rocket engine and propulsion systems);
• avionics and electronics (flight computer, sensors, telemetry);
• summer dynamics and stabilisation;
• a safety descent system (parachute system);
• development of ground infrastructure, testing and safety procedures.
The signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation with the Macedonian Student Rocket Team opens an innovative field of collaboration, for which five faculties of the University have already expressed an interest in cooperating, contributing their expertise – from mechanical structures and materials, through electronics and software, to flight physics and data analysis:
• Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – Skopje;
• Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy – Skopje;
• Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics – Skopje;
• Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology – Skopje;
• Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering – Skopje.
