On 10 October 2022, Stanford University published the latest updated list of the world's top 2% most-cited scientists, based on data analysed up to the end of the 2021 calendar year.This list of the world's top 2% most-cited scientists across all fields is based on standardised citation indicators and relies on updated bibliometric data from the Scopus database.Eight researchers affiliated with the University "St. Cyril and Methodius" in Skopje are ranked on this list, namely:

• Six researchers, most cited during the 2021 calendar year and
• The four most-cited researchers over their entire careers, up to 2021, two of whom are also on the list for the 2021 calendar year.

For the University "St. Cyril and Methodius" in Skopje (UCM), it is a particular honour that 90% of the country's top most-cited scientists are among UCM's academic staff. In doing so:

• The six professors among the 2% most-cited scientists in the world, for 2021, are:
  • Academic Professor Dr Ljubcho Kocarev, Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering
  • ACADEMIC Professor Dr Leonid Grchev, Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology,
  • Dr MARJAN GUŠEV, full professor at the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering,
  • Dr Biljana Bauer Petrovska, full professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy,
  • Dr Kristijan Goreski, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Skopje
  • Dr Biljana Stojkoska, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering.
• Four professors, among the world's 2% most-cited scientists over their entire careers, up to and including 2021, are:
  • ACADEMIC Professor Dr Ljubcho Kocarev, Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering,
  • ACADEMIC Professor Dr Leonid Grchev, Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology,
  • Dr Trajche Staffilov, Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics,
  • Dr Ivan Grozdanov, Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics.

The bibliometric databases, whose analysis determines the 2% most-cited scientists for their entire careers and for a single calendar year, take into account 195,605 scientists from 22 scientific fields and 200,409 scientists from 176 scientific areas. The selection is based on a percentile rank of 2%, among the top 100,000 scientists according to the c-score (with and without self-citations).

The results of the analyses conducted by Stanford University on the world's top 2% most-cited scientists are published in the third quarter of the year and relate to data analysed up to the previous calendar year.

The database of the most-cited scientists provides standardised information on citations, the h-index, the hm-index adjusted for co-authorship, citations of papers in different author positions, and a composite indicator (c-score).
