|
Careers Centre at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, today, on 12 April 2024., which took place from 11:00 to 15:00 on the UКИМ square, marked two events – "„Open Day at UKIM“and„Day for Career Development at UKIM“. The Rector of UKI, Professor Dr Biljana Angelova, the Head of the UKI Career Centre, Professor Dr Jasmina Tonik Ribarska, and the President of the UKI University Student Assembly, Aleksandar Nikolovski, also delivered addresses.
Each of the 23 faculties and 5 institutes of UKIM, as well as a total of 33 renowned companies, presented themselves at their stands to interested secondary school leavers and UKIM students who wish to familiarise themselves with employment and internship opportunities.
First, the more than 2,000 attendees were warmly welcomed by the Rector of the University "St. Cyril and Methodius" in Skopje, Professor Dr Biljana Angelova, who with great pride delivered the message of the Open Day:
„Welcome to the UoM Open Day, a day of orientation, guidance in choosing your future careers for prospective UoM students, and a careers day for our students who will become the future managers, engineers, pharmacists, lawyers and doctors. Today is not just another day; today is the day when prospective students will see the wealth of opportunities that UКИМ offers, and our current students will see the possibilities for their future employment. This is a moment on your long journey to success. And as you move through these stands and explore the opportunities before you, remember that the choice you make today may well shape the trajectory of your tomorrow.
The world is vast, brimming with opportunities waiting to be seized. But it demands courage, determination and unwavering commitment. It requires resilience in the face of challenges, adaptability to change and a tireless pursuit of excellence.
The event was interactive, with discussions, guidance and advice from both unit representatives and companies, through familiarisation with study programmes, scholarship opportunities, involvement in research projects, international exchange opportunities and student life, with the aim of providing inspiration, guidance and assistance in making a decision when choosing a specific academic environment or future career development in the business world. The event also featured an entertainment zone (with performances by students from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts and the USSS-UKIM music band), as well as refreshments with drinks in the Пивара-Скопје zone and a curated music playlist.
In her address, the Head of the UGJK Career Centre, Prof. Dr Jasmina Tončić Ribarska, highlighted the following: "Over the past period, we have been working intensively on the development of the Centre, in collaboration with our partner, USAID's Youth Opportunity Activity, and our efforts are focused on achieving a world-class standard in the delivery of career support as an exceptionally important service for our students. For more than 700 students from various faculties, we organised training, workshops and hackathons through which the students improved their skills and knowledge in building an online portfolio, communication skills, and interview readiness, and also gained practical experience in design and marketing, freelancing, social entrepreneurship and ventured into the world of the start-up ecosystem. Following the principle 'UKIM for students, students for UKIM', I am pleased to promote the new logo for the Career Centre, created by our very own students – the winners of the 'UKIM Career Centre Branding and Marketing Strategy Hackathon'.
These two events – the 'UКИМ Open Day' and the 'UКИM Career Development Day' – are an excellent opportunity for school leavers and students to be convinced of the fact that UКИМ, for current and future generations alike, remains the best university, not only in the country but also in the region, as Head Tonić Ribarska noted in her address, '… students have been, are, and will be the greatest asset of a university; they are the future creators and drivers of progress for society as a whole, and UKI is the most important generator of intelligence and quality in our society'.
