
Professor Dr Dragi Dimitrievski

Dr Dragi Dimitrievski was born on 7 August 1962 in Skopje, where he completed his primary and secondary education.
He graduated from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food in Skopje, at the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje, in 1987, where he completed his postgraduate studies in 1993, obtaining a Master's degree in Agricultural Sciences in the field of Agribusiness. He submitted his doctoral dissertation at the same faculty and defended it in 2001, thereby earning the degree of Doctor of Agricultural Sciences in the field of agroeconomics.
After graduating, he worked for a short time at the Belimbegovo–Skopje poultry farm as a graduate agricultural engineer. In 1988 he was appointed junior assistant at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food in Skopje, where he has been continuously promoted through all academic and scientific ranks. In 2011, he was appointed full professor in the field of Agricultural Economics and Development.
He teaches across all three cycles of study in the field of agricultural economics and development. He has supervised more than 30 undergraduate theses, over 10 master's theses and two doctoral dissertations. He has been a member of numerous committees for the assessment and defence of master's theses and doctoral dissertations.
Dr Dragi Dimitrievski is the author of more than 120 published scientific papers, published in domestic and international journals, as well as papers presented at domestic and international conferences, where he has been a plenary speaker on several occasions. He is the co-author of two university textbooks and has also published several teaching aids and manuals.
He participated in the implementation of numerous scientific research and applied projects. He participated in several TEMPUS projects and was coordinator of one. From 2004 to 2014 he was team leader of the project "Building Capacity for Formulating Macedonian Policy and Economic Analysis in the Agricultural Sector", funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. – SIDA, which contributed to the development of human and material capacities in the field of agroeconomics. As part of this project, postgraduate dual-degree studies were organised with the University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden, through which more than 10 students were awarded a Master's degree. He has been a coordinator for Macedonia and a participant in more than 20 projects in the field of agricultural policy, funded by the European Commission, FAO, UNDP, USAID and the World Bank. For more than 15 years, he has collaborated with and served as a key national expert on projects led by the Standing Working Group on Rural and Regional Development in South-East Europe (SWG-RRD), for the analysis of the agricultural policies of the Western Balkan countries and their adaptation to the EU's Common Agricultural Policy.
He has undertaken study stays at universities and institutions in several countries: the USA, Japan, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and others.
Dr Dragi Dimitrievski is actively involved in advisory and applied activities within the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, drafting numerous strategic documents and legislative and regulatory acts as a key expert in the field of agricultural policy. He is known as one of the most prominent shapers of public opinion on agricultural policy, through numerous public appearances and written articles and columns in the media.
From April 2003 to April 2005 he served as Vice-Dean for Science, and in two terms, from April 2009 to May 2017, he was Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food at the University "St. Cyril and Methodius" in Skopje.
He served on the University Commission for the Management of the Congress Centre, as well as on several faculties' commissions. Since June 2023, he has been a member of the Senate of the University "St. Cyril and Methodius" in Skopje.
Dr Dragi Dimitrievski also held several public positions. In 2002 he was Director of the Environmental Fund at the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning. From 2001 to 2003 he was a representative of social capital and Chairman of the Management Board of the Agricultural Combine "Anska Reka" in Valandovo. He was a member of the Board for the Award of the 'Goce Delchev' Prize and chairman of the Commission for the Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas Obtained at Foreign Higher Education Institutions in the Field of Biotechnical Sciences at the Ministry of Education and Science.
He was a member of the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) and is an active member of the Association of Agricultural Economists of the Republic of Macedonia (ZAEM).
