The 57th Summer School of the International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture has opened.
Guided by the thought of the great Macedonian cultural figure, ideologue, analyst and philologist Krste Misirkov:„Science and literature are the most important factor in the development of a nation, (…)“", emphasising that:„The degree to which a nation's science and literature have developed is a measure of its culture (…)“The University "St. Cyril and Methodius" in Skopje has been developing and building academic excellence for seven and a half decades, which is intrinsically linked to the postulates of Misirkov. The established ideals of top-tier science and the highest standards in higher education, oriented towards overall social and cultural prosperity, These ideals of excellence in scholarship and the highest standards in higher education, oriented towards overall social and cultural prosperity, carry UKIM along a path of continuous commitment to its established goals, with a clear vision of an open, modern, integrated university for the new era, which develops by facing all the challenges that lie in its path.
The emphasis in Miskov's is placed on the word '„development“The development of science and literature, the development of a nation. Dear seminarists-Macedonists, let that word be your guiding principle in your studies; may every working day at the Seminar be a step towards the development of Macedonistics as a language with a deep tradition.
Kreste Misirkov points out:„To preserve one's national language and defend it as a sacred thing means to remain faithful to the spirit of one's forefathers and to honour all that they did for their descendants. To renounce one's national language is to renounce the national spirit as well.“
Part of today's address by the Rector of UKI, Professor Dr Biljana Angelova.
