On 1 October 2024, The University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje (UCM) will host the conference organised by the eminent Science|Business, dedicated to the enhanced integration of research infrastructure from the Western Balkan region into the European Research Area and the opportunities for researchers, innovators and the business community.

In addition to the organiser Science|Business and the host UGJK, partners of the conference are the EIT Community of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, The Western Balkans Countries' Research, Technology and Innovation Platform (WBC-RTI) via Policy Answers and ELI ERIC, the European Research Infrastructure Consortium for Laser Technologies for pan-European integration of researchers and industry.

 Supporters of the conference are the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission and the ERA – the European Research Area, UNICA – the Network of Capital City Universities in Europe, COST – the European Commission's Science and Technology Association, and the RCC – the Regional Cooperation Council for the Western Balkans.

The conference dedicated to the European integration of the Western Balkans will bring together eminent European and regional experts in policymaking for the integration of research infrastructures and building synergy between innovation and the business community, with the aim of highlighting how South-East Europe can strengthen its research and innovation capacities and integrate them into the wider European network. The topics will include the maintenance, construction and linking of research infrastructures in Europe, with a focus on creating a unified and cohesive research environment.

" – said the Rector of UКИМ, Prof. Dr Biljana Angelova, who will open the event.

The panel discussions will focus on improving research policies and practices in the region, fostering strategic partnerships between national and European research infrastructures, and strategies for tackling the 'brain drain' challenge, by attracting and retaining young talent in Southeast Europe.
