Happy 21 February – International Mother Language Day
„The mother tongue is the foundation of cultural and national identities. It is the bearer of values, traditions and historical experiences. The mother tongue connects, unites and helps to pass on traditions to future generations. The nurturing and respect for the mother tongue is the foundation for preserving cultural heritage and for continuing our existence as a nation. Happy 21 February – International Mother Language Day," the Rector, Prof. Dr Biljana Angelova, said.
She reminded us that more than 6,000 different languages are spoken worldwide, but that for us the greatest importance lies in nurturing and affirming our mother tongue – the Macedonian language – referring to the significance of this year's jubilees: the 80th anniversary of the Macedonian alphabet and the Macedonian orthography.
The International Seminar for Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture at the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje, on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day, will hold a "Macedonist Hour" for the Macedonistics lectorates of UCM at foreign universities worldwide, at which the lecture and presentation by Prof. Dr Veselinka Labroska will be presented, a member of the MANU and a member of the Council of the MSMJLK at UKIM, entitled '80 Years of the Macedonian Alphabet and Spelling', with accompanying commentary by the lecturers.
MSMLK at UKIM expressed its gratitude to Macedonists, editors and students around the world for their continued affirmation of Macedonistics, as well as for the great interest in all Macedonist events.
