• Abstract: The textbook contains the materials from the lectures and exercises on the eponymous subject that the authors delivered at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje. The introduction of the concepts is gradual and accompanied by numerous examples. The basic concepts related to metric spaces are presented: metric, norm, distance between sets, diameter of a set, open and closed sets; interior, exterior and boundary points; sequences, limit of a sequence, fundamental sequences and complete metric spaces; functions in metric spaces, limit value and continuity of a function; Banach's fixed point theorem; compact and connected metric spaces. Each chapter contains definitions, proved theorems, examples and exercises, the solutions to which are given at the end of the textbook.
