Start of Macedonian language teaching at the University of Naples L'Orientale and the revival of the oldest chair of MSSMLK at UCM in Naples, Italy
On 14 April, teaching in the Macedonian language began at the renewed, oldest Chair of the International Seminar for Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture at UCM, which is held at the Department of Literary, linguistic and comparative studies at the University of L'Orientale in Naples.
With the re-establishment of the Chair, after sixteen years, a significant chapter is once again opened in international Macedonistics and in Macedonian-Italian higher education, scientific and cultural relations. The Chair was active from 1969 to 2010, during which time it fostered valuable academic, scientific and cultural cooperation that contributed to the promotion of the Macedonian language, literature and culture in Italy.
Thanks to the efforts of the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' and the International Seminar for Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture at UKIM, Macedonistics is once again taught today in the historic 'Santa Maria Porta Coeli' building on Via Duomo.
Interest in Macedonistics is excellent; twenty students from the Department and one student from Ca' Foscari University in Venice have applied.
The teaching was taken over by the lecturer of the MSMLK at UKI, Ms Viktorija Elenova, a specialist in Macedonian and Italian with many years of teaching experience in various educational settings. Her competence and dedication to the Italian language, literature and culture, and her proficient knowledge of the Macedonian language and its literary and cultural context, enable her to structure the teaching as a scholarly process between two linguistic, literary and cultural contexts.
This is a new chapter in the history of the International Seminar at UKI M and the third open lectorate in the past three years. We wish you success, fruitful work and new results. ✨
