First UКИМ patent in medicinal chemistry: The Faculty of Pharmacy receives the "Patent of the Year 2025" award„
The Faculty of Pharmacy at UGJK today received the 'Patent of the Year 2025' award from the State Patent Office, awarded on the occasion of 26 April, World Intellectual Property Day.
The award is for the invention 'Coumarin-1,2,3-trazole-isatin hybrid molecules and their application', developed by Prof. Dr Ana Poteva Panovska and Assoc. Prof. Dr Aleksandar Dimkovski. These are new hybrid compounds with potential application in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease.
This is also the first patent from UKIM in the field of medicinal chemistry. The research is currently in the preclinical phase, and the next steps are aimed at deepening the results and transforming them into a real therapeutic option.
