Со билатерален договор се зајакнува академската соработка - Универзитет „Св. Кирил и Методиј“ во Скопје

Academic cooperation is strengthened by a bilateral agreement.

The Second International Conference on Balkan Studies was held at the University of Slovenian Studies in Baku.

On 26 September 2025, the Baku Slavic University (BSU) hosted the Second International Conference on Balkan Studies. This academic event, which aimed to encourage academic research on the Balkans, strengthen intercultural dialogue and promote regional cooperation, brought together numerous experts and academics from various countries.

Within the framework of the conference, an agreement for academic cooperation was signed between Baku Slavic University in Baku, Azerbaijan, and the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' of Skopje, North Macedonia, thereby establishing a significant international partnership. The agreement was signed by the leadership of the university on the Azerbaijani side, the respected Rector, Prof. Dr Anar Naghiyev, and the Rector of UKIM, Prof. Dr Biljana Angelova, on the Macedonian side.

In accordance with the agreement, the establishment of a Centre for the Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture at the University of Baku is planned, where academic research in the field of the Macedonian language and cultural heritage will be supported. This centre will contribute to increasing interest in the Macedonian language, encouraging new scientific research and developing institutional cooperation between the two countries.

Additionally, language and culture courses are planned for students from both universities. In this regard, students from Azerbaijan will have the opportunity to participate in language study seminars in North Macedonia, thereby enhancing linguistic and cultural exchange. The implementation of academic exchange programmes and joint scientific projects also represents key components of this cooperation.

This partnership is not limited to just the two higher education institutions, but also contributes to strengthening the academic, cultural and intellectual ties between Azerbaijan and North Macedonia.
