The Day of the Macedonian Language in Romania and the 50th anniversary of the founding of Macedonist studies in Romania were solemnly celebrated.
On 8 December at the National Library of Romania in Bucharest, the Day of the Macedonian Language in Romania and the jubilee marking 50 years since the establishment of Macedonist studies in Romania were solemnly celebrated.
Studies in Macedonistics began at the University of Craiova in the 1974/1975 academic year at the initiative of Dr Valentin Kelaru.
Macedonian language, literature and culture are studied at the Chair of Macedonian Language at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures in Bucharest, and the teaching is conducted by the lecturer, Elena Georgievska, who was selected as the lecturer in Macedonian by the International Seminar for Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture at the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje.
The event's programme was enriched with a concert of Macedonian traditional music, a reading of Macedonian poetry translated by the students of the lektorate, and a suitable cocktail.
The event was attended by the diplomatic corps accredited in Romania, the Macedonian honorary consuls in Romania, the Rector of the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' of Skopje, Prof. Dr Biljana Angelova, representatives of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures from Bucharest, as well as the first proofreader of the Macedonian Language Proofreading Centre in Bucharest, the Macedonian writer, poet and translator, Lidija Dimkovska.
At this ceremonial event, the Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bucharest, H.E. Zlatan Begović presented a plaque to the Rector of the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' of Skopje, Prof. Dr Biljana Angelova, for promoting partnership relations and close cooperation between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Romania in the development of the Macedonian language, literature and culture.
This jubilee is a significant affirmation of the importance of the Macedonian language and literature, as well as of the strengthening of cultural ties between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Romania.
