Professor Dr Lazo Pendovski was born in 1975 in Skopje.
He enrolled in undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Skopje in the 1994/1995 academic year, and graduated in 2001.
Since 2005, he has been employed as a junior assistant at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Skopje, part of the University 'Sts. Cyril and Methodius' of Skopje (UКИМ), where he was continuously promoted through all associate and academic teaching titles to the highest, that of a full professor, in 2021, in the field of veterinary medicine.
He completed his master's studies at the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje, part of UKI, in 2007, and obtained the academic degree of Master of Medical Sciences.
He completed his doctoral studies at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Skopje, part of the University 'Sвети Кирил и Методиј', in 2011, when he was awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Science in Veterinary Medicine.
From 2013 to 2017 (with two elections) he served as Pro-Dean for Teaching at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Skopje.
In 2017, he was appointed acting Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Skopje by the Rector of UKI, and later that same year was elected Dean by the Academic Council of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. In 2021, he was re-elected for a second term as Dean and held the position until his appointment as Vice-Rector.
In addition to his teaching on undergraduate programmes at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Skopje, he is involved in the teaching process at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food at UКИМ, He is a professor and accredited mentor for the doctoral studies in Veterinary Medicine and Food Safety at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Skopje.
In 2004 he organised the International Seminar on Plastination, held in cooperation with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Macedonia and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Austria. At the 12th International Conference on Plastination in Spain in 2004 he won the first prize for best paper, and at the 8th. At the 8th International Conference on Plastination, held in 2005, he was elected general secretary of the conference. In 2007, in Murcia (Spain), he completed the 7th postgraduate course in polyester tissue plastination – P40.
Professor Dr Pendovski has participated in numerous international events and has also been an invited speaker, receiving awards for his special contributions to the scientific committees of numerous professional and scientific gatherings with international participation (conferences, congresses, symposia, etc.).
He is the recipient of several grants for education and research, such as: a COST scholarship for a scientific visit to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Zagreb; a one-month CEEPUS scholarship at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna (Austria); a scholarship from the Ministry of Science, Education and Sport of the Republic of Croatia for a research stay at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Zagreb; a 10-month research stay at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Ljubljana (Slovenia), under the Erasmus Mundus programme.
He actively managed and participated in the implementation of 23 scientific projects under various programmes (Tempus Joint European Project (JEP), COST, SEE-ERA-NETs, the NATO programme, FP7 and FP6, Erasmus+, FAO, etc.), in collaboration with foreign universities and international institutions.
Prof. Dr Lazo Pendovski has to date published more than 114 scientific and professional papers in journals with international boards, journals with an impact factor, and abstracts at home and abroad, and is the author/co-author of 7 books/textbooks in the field of animal morphology, embryotechnology and animal welfare. He is the editor of 10 books of abstracts from annual conferences and 2 monographs for the Faculty.
Since 2013, he has been the Editor-in-Chief of the international scientific journal Macedonian Veterinary Review, which is indexed in the world's most prestigious scientific journal databases and has an Impact Factor (IF = 0.4) in Clarivate Analytics – Web of Science.
Dr Pendovski is also a member of the international editorial boards of the scientific journals: Veterinary Journal of Ankara University, Meat Technology, Veterinary Journal of the Republic of Srpska and Archives of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr Lazo Pendovski is actively involved in the work of numerous commissions, namely as a member of the Sectoral Commission for Agriculture and Fisheries at the National Board for the Macedonian Qualifications Framework of the Ministry of Education and Science, member of the working body for reviewing projects submitted to the Commission for Culture and Sport of UGM, member of the Board for the Selection of Scientists at UGM who demonstrate outstanding results in scientific research, member of the Expert Council for Doctoral Studies at UGM, member of the Working Group for Chapter 12 (Food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary policy), for negotiations on the accession of the Republic of Macedonia to the EU, Chair of the Board for Public Trust and Cooperation (2013–2017), member of the Programme Committee for the European Research and Innovation Programme 'Horizon Europe' at the level of the Ministry of Education and Science (2021), responsible for the Research Capacities programme, etc.
In 2021, Prof. Dr Lazo Pendovski received a special award as Dean, 'Best in Agribusiness', for the development of educational and research capacities and laboratories in accordance with the ISO 17025 standard at the traditional 88th. International Agricultural Fair, held in the Republic of Serbia, and co-organised by the partner country, the Czech Republic, in the presence of numerous business entities, food producers, research centres, agencies and higher education institutions from the fields of agriculture and veterinary medicine.
In 2023, he was elected an honorary member of the Academy of Veterinary Medicine (AVM) of the Serbian Veterinary Society in the Republic of Serbia.
The area of scientific research and professional interest of Professor Dr Lazo Pendovski is the functional morphology of animals, with a particular focus on the gene expression of factors that influence muscle growth in animals.
