International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature, and Culture | Summer Schools

In the year when the oldest and most renowned Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje celebrates its 75th anniversary, the International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature, and Culture will organize its 57th Summer School in the magnificent ancient city of Ohrid, a cultural, spiritual, and tourist hub, from August 15–29, 2024, at the Congress Center of UKIM.

With a renewed vision, updated concept, and enriched content, MSMJLK at UKIM offers a unique opportunity to study Macedonian language, literature, and culture over two weeks, taught by distinguished professors, lecturers, researchers, and collaborators. The faculty includes prominent Macedonian studies scholars, philologists, cultural theorists, folklorists, ethnologists, musicologists, philosophers, and historians.

The International Seminar organizes regular classes, plenary lectures, and elective courses. Starting this year, it will also provide a wide range of activities, including cultural and artistic programs, book promotions, meetings with writers, and excursions to significant cultural and historical landmarks.
Ohrid, an ancient city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the world's top tourist destinations. The Ohrid-Struga region and Lake Ohrid are true gems of the Balkans, offering a unique cultural and tourist experience.

International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature, and Culture at UKIM in Skopje

 
Dear Sir or Madam,
 
    The University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje will this year, from 17 to 31 August 2023, organise the 56th Summer School of the International Seminar for the Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture at UKIM. The teaching will consist of daily activities for participants focused on the study of the Macedonian language through lecture courses divided according to their level of proficiency. Daily thematic lectures are also planned, to be delivered by university professors and distinguished scholars. 
      In the evenings, a slot is scheduled for presentations, promotions and interactive events to enrich the scientific and cultural offering for participants. Within these time slots, the latest scientific and literary publications will be promoted, meetings with well-known Macedonian authors will be arranged, and documentaries on culture and ethnology will be screened.
As part of the International Seminar, the 50th International Scientific Conference will be held from 1 to 3 September, at which Macedonian and foreign experts will present their latest research in the field of Macedonistics.
    Consistently upholding tradition, the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' through the planned activities of the International Seminar for the Macedonian Language, literature and culture, held from 17 August to 4 September 2023 in Ohrid – the city of ancient civilisations, spiritual tradition and the cradle of the Slavic alphabet, is gradually evolving into a summer University of Macedonistics.

Lecturers and proofreaders
 
    At the Summer School, the proofreading classes and lectures will be delivered by university professors and academic researchers from various faculties within the University "St. Cyril and Methodius" in Skopje. The proofreaders will be lecturers and research associates from the Faculty of Philology. "Blaže Koneski" in Skopje, who are trained to teach the Macedonian language as a foreign language in accordance with the standards of the European Framework of Reference for Languages and who use the methods and standards of the Centre for Testing and Certification of the Macedonian Language as a Foreign Language.
 
Programme
 
    The summer school is delivered through daily editing classes divided by language proficiency and interest at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels (with three sub-levels: language, literature and translation).

    56. The Summer School of the International Seminar on the Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture at the University "St. Cyril and Methodius" will be held at the University's Congress Centre, located 7 km from the city of Ohrid, situated on the shores of Lake Ohrid.

The 52nd Summer School of the International Seminar on the Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture will be held from 4 August to 23 August 2019 in Ohrid at the Congress Centre of the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje – (formerly the University Resort). The Congress Centre is located in the village of Koňsko, 7 km from the centre of Ohrid on the road to St. Naum.

From Ohrid to the Congress Centre you can get there by bus or by taxi. Every 15 to 20 minutes there are buses from Ohrid's City Bus Station to the village of Konjsko. You can take the buses that go to: St. Naum, Pestani and Elshani. You should get off at the stop by the Hotel Metropol. The Congress Centre is located right between the stop and the lake.

If you are travelling by car, Ohrid is 170 km from Skopje. A detailed description of how to get to Ohrid can be found at the following link.

If you arrive in Skopje by plane from Skopje Airport, you can take a taxi to Ohrid or to Skopje. The website of Skopje Airport is: https://www.airports.com.mk.
