  • Abstract: The material covered in the book Nuclear Thermal Power Plants fully covers the content stipulated by the curriculum for the 'Nuclear Thermal Power Plants' discipline for undergraduate studies, as adopted by the Academic Council of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. – Skopje, at the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje.
The material in the book has been developed as a result of many years of teaching and practical exercises in the subject, and is presented in eleven chapters:

    1. Nuclear energy and energetics – general overviews
    2. Nuclear physics
    3. Physics of a nuclear reactor
    4. Fissia
    5. Sources and transfer of heat in nuclear reactors
    6. Materials for nuclear reactors and special technologies
    7. Concept of nuclear power reactors
    8. Structural elements of nuclear power reactors
    9. Nuclear power plants
    10. Operation and maintenance of nuclear power plants
    11. Prospective directions for the development of nuclear reactors and NTEC

In the book's content, chapters 1 to 3 cover the general characteristics of nuclear thermal power plants, nuclear physics and the physics of nuclear reactors. Chapter 4 addresses the basic characteristics of the fission reaction. Chapter 5 presents the methods of heat transfer in nuclear reactors. Chapters 6, 7 and 8 cover the materials used as fuel, a moderator and a coolant, and for the construction of nuclear reactors, as well as numerous designs of modern nuclear reactors with an illustration of the structural elements that are an integral part of the reactors. The chapter presents various nuclear power plants with all their constituent elements, designed according to the reactor type. Chapter 10 presents the procedures for the operation and maintenance of nuclear power plants, while Chapter 11 provides guidance for the future development of reactors and power plants, as well as prospective methods for utilising nuclear energy.
The book 'Nuclear Thermal Power Plants' is primarily intended for undergraduate students at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Skopje, in the Thermal Engineering and Energy and Ecology specialisations, for whom this field of engineering is a particular specialism. but it can also serve as a basis for postgraduate students in the same fields, as well as for practising engineers in the field of thermal energy.
