MSMJLK at UKIM marks another major jubilee

35 Years of Studying the Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture at Istanbul University

 

The International Seminar for Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture at the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje (ISMLLC) is marking another major jubilee – 35 years of the study of the Macedonian language, literature and culture at the Faculty of Literature of Istanbul University. On this occasion, a celebratory event dedicated to the Macedonian language lectorship in Istanbul will be held on 11 June 2021, starting at 10 a.m., via the Zoom platform.

The event will be opened by the Rector of the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje (UCM), Prof. Dr Nikola Janculovski, after which the Rector of Istanbul University, Prof. Dr Mahmut Ak, and the Consul General of the Republic of North Macedonia in the Republic of Turkey, Dr Akтан Ago, will also deliver addresses. Referring to this great and exceptionally significant jubilee, which is taking place in the year marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great figure Blaže Koneski, The Dean of the Faculty of Literature at Istanbul University, Prof. Dr Hayati Develi, and the Dean of the Faculty of Philology "Blaže Koneski" at UCM, Prof. Dr Aneta Dučevska, will also address the event's participants.

In the second part of the event, the Director of the International Seminar for Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture at UCM (ISMLLC), Prof. Dr Vesna Mojsova-Chepishhevska, will give a presentation on the topic: "Koneski – the bridge between the two universities, between Skopje and Istanbul, between the two countries and two peoples" and the Head of the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, within which the Department of Macedonian Language and Literature at Istanbul University is located, on the topic: "35 years of studying the Macedonian language in Istanbul in light of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Blaže Koneski".

Then, with their own presentations on the work of the Macedonian language lectorship in Istanbul, the event will be enriched by: the Head of the Department of Macedonian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Literature, Istanbul University,  Prof. Dr Gönül Uzelli, the former Macedonian language lecturer at Istanbul University, Prof. Dr Gordana Aleksova, and the current lecturer, Ms Marina Cvetanoska.

It is particularly pleasing that students studying the Macedonian language at Istanbul University will also take part in this event – Aytan Atmaca, who will perform the poem 'The Beautiful Women', and Sila Ekin with the poem 'Butterfly' by Blaže Koneski.

This significant jubilee – 35 years of Macedonistics at Istanbul University, which is being celebrated in the year marking the centenary of Koneski's birth – is yet another indication of the excellent cooperation between UCM and Istanbul University, as well as of the bridge between the two countries and cultures, which also obliges us to continue creating and supporting new generations of scholars of the Macedonian, as well as the Turkish, language, literature and culture in both countries.

The jubilee celebration follows the winter school organised by MSMJLK, which was held at the beginning of this year, from which the collection 'Konesevski in 11 Languages' resulted, promoted last week, as well as following the celebration of the 45th anniversary of Moscow State University 'M. V. Lomonosov'. With the commemoration of 35 years of the study of the Macedonian language, literature and culture at Istanbul University, UKIM continues its series of activities to mark the life and work of Blaze Koneski with dignity.

This event is part of the annual programme of the MSMJLK at UKI, and is being held as part of the rich programme dedicated to the great jubilee of the great Blaze Koneski, as part of the Programme of the manifestation "2021 – Year dedicated to Blaze Koneski", under the patronage of the President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, and in coordination with the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science.
