Ukim awarded the most deserving for the development of scientific activity

On the occasion of the World Science Day for Peace and Development, UGJK awarded the most deserving individuals for the development of scientific activity.

 

Skopje, November 2024 – The University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje, on the occasion of the World Science Day for Peace and Development, in recognition of a special contribution to the development of scientific research and the internationalisation and affirmation of the University, for an exceptional career achievement and for publishing more than 100 scientific papers affiliated with the University and indexed in the Web of Science database, awarded the University Plaques to eight professors, as well as the Prize for the best scientists and an artist who have achieved outstanding results over the past year in various fields of research.

Winners of Placard for special contribution the following renowned professors of UKI M:

  1. Academic Professor, Doctor Valentin Mirchensky, a professor at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics,
  2. Academic Professor, Doctor Sasko Kedev, a professor at the Faculty of Medicine,
  3. Professor, Doctor Vladimir Trajkovic, a full professor at the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering,
  4. Professor, Doctor Ljubcho Pejov, a professor at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics,
  5. Professor, Doctor Eftim Zdravevski, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering,
  6. Professor, Doctor Christian Goreskand, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology,
  7. Professor, Doctor Petre Makreski, a professor at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics,
  8. Professor, Doctor Zlatko Levkov, a full professor at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics.

In a particular context, the Plaque of Prof. Dr. Valentin Mirchensky, It also encompasses a second achievement, for exceptional career achievement and internationally recognised excellence through inclusion in Stanford University's World's Top 2% Scientists list for the entire career.

Of the established instruments at the University for supporting science, the annual award is a significant and motivating one, which is awarded to the best scientists and artist of the University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje, who have achieved outstanding results in scientific research during the past calendar year. At the ceremony,  The Award for the Best Scientists and Artist The UKIM awards for 2023 were presented to the following winners:

  1. Doctor Daniel Velinov, a regular professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Skopje for best scientist in the field of natural and mathematical sciences,
  2. Doctor Dimitar Trajanov, a full professor at the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering in Skopje, for best scientist in the scientific field of technical and technological sciences,
  3. Doctor Andrej Nikolovski, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje for best scientist in the SCIENTIFIC FIELD OF MEDICAL SCIENCES,
  4. Doctor Alexander Uzunov, a full professor at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food in Skopje for best scientist in the SCIENTIFIC FIELD of veterinary and agricultural sciences,
  5. Doctor Alexander Stojkov, a full professor at the 'Justinian I' Faculty of Law in Skopje for best scientist in the field of social sciences, and
  6. Master of Arts Zoya Buzalkovska, a full professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Skopje for BEST ARTIST.

The Rector of UКИМ, Prof. Dr Biljana Angelova, extended her congratulations to all the awardees, emphasising the importance of scientific activity for our society.

Speaking on this year's thematic focus, on the occasion of the World Science Day for Peace and Development – 'Why science is important in the context of engaging minds and strengthening the future', Angelova emphasised that science, technology and innovation are essential for fostering economic, social and environmental development, the three pillars of sustainable development.

„"To support these three pillars, UNESCO helps and mobilises its Member States and partners to create conducive environments that will make research and innovation more accessible, transparent, inclusive and linked to societal needs," said Angelova.

The commemoration of this day highlights the importance of strengthening public awareness of the role of science in the sustainable development of society, as well as the need to draw attention to the challenges facing scientific research and to increase support for scientific research.

Given that a group of scientists from the academic community of UCM, distinguished by the highest number of reference publications indexed in the Web of Science database, make a particularly significant contribution to the University's affirmation, and in order to express recognition for their scientific achievements throughout their careers, with the intention that this recognition will serve as a motivation for others, and especially for younger researchers, to achieve more and better in science, The University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje is awarding this prestigious, once-in-a-career recognition – a Plaque for a special contribution to the development of scientific research and the internationalisation and affirmation of the University – emphasised the Vice-Rector for Science at UKIM, Prof. Dr Valentina Gechevska.
