Celebrating the 47th anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Physical Education, Sport and Health

At the ceremonial celebration of the 47th anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Physical Education, Sport and Health, the Rector of UKI, Professor Dr Biljana Angelova, spoke on a topic that is fundamental to our well-being: the relationship between physical education, sport and health. In her address, Rector Angelova emphasised:
„Physical education is not just about learning how to play sports or exercise, but much more than that. It is about instilling discipline, a team-oriented mindset, and perseverance in young minds. When we engage in physical activities, we not only strengthen our bodies but also sharpen our minds. Research shows that students who participate in regular physical education have better academic performance, demonstrate improved concentration, and have higher levels of self-confidence.
Physical education promotes physical literacy – the ability to move with knowledge across a broad range of physical activities. Physical literacy is of vital importance because it lays the foundations for lifelong habits of sport, movement and health. In fact, we all want a future in which every child grows up understanding the value of movement, knowing how to stay active and appreciating the power of caring for their body.
The power of sport, among other things, lies in fostering character-building sports that teach us lessons that go beyond the pitch. Whether you're running, playing basketball or taking part in a team sport like football, you learn important life skills – leadership, endurance and how to cope with success and failure."“
