International scientific conference on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the first session of ASNOM

The International Scientific Conference on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the First Session of the ASNOM, which was held on 13. 11 November 2024, organised by the JNU Institute for National History – Skopje, the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the State Archives of Macedonia, the Rector of UKIМ, Professor Dr Biljana Angelova, emphasised:
„ASNOM laid the foundations for the formation of state institutions, paving the way for the development of a democratic society that is the basis of what Macedonia is today, with all its achievements, but also of what it will be in the future. ASNOM is the state-creating breath of the modern Macedonian state. It is a history that must be nurtured, respected and protected. We feel the benefits of ASNOM every day, so when we speak of ASNOM, we mean everything that has been achieved over the past decades, but also its contribution to the present day, as well as to the future of our state.
The University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje also marked a major jubilee this year under the motto '75 years of academic excellence'. Following in the footsteps of Macedonian statehood, our oldest, largest, state-founding university has always operated in harmony with the Macedonian state. It is embedded in the fabric of the Macedonian state. UCM originates from and grows out of a deep and ancient tradition, which springs from the very sources of our literacy, science and culture. Throughout all these decades, the University has represented the avant-garde and the mission of the future, creating generations of intellectuals and scientists who have left their mark here and continue to do so all over the world.
The legacy of ASNOM is a testament to the resilience and determination of the Macedonian nation. It serves as a reminder, a memorial, and a reminder of the importance of unity, democratic values, and the relentless pursuit of sovereignty. As the country continues to face the challenges on its path to the EU and all global challenges, the principles and ideals of ASNOM must, more than ever, remain embedded in the very essence of all future decisions, as they are the foundation of Macedonian national identity and statehood.
