The University "St. Cyril and Methodius" in Skopje and the United Nations signed a joint Declaration on the expansion of cooperation.

The University 'St. Cyril and Methodius' in Skopje (UKIM) and the United Nations today signed a Joint Declaration of Intent in Skopje. The aim is clear – to expand cooperation in support of the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and to contribute to the vision of the National Development Strategy.

Rector Prof. Dr Biljana Angelova highlighted the significance of this event, emphasising: "With the signing of this joint declaration, our university deepens its cooperation with the United Nations in support of North Macedonia's path towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Together, we will advance scientific activity, encourage innovation, and expand opportunities for student engagement, ensuring that the knowledge created within the academic community translates into tangible benefits for society and contributes to a more sustainable and inclusive future."„

„One key aspect of accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals is that their achievement largely depends on broad collaboration. In the true spirit of Sustainable Development Goal 17, it is my honour to sign this declaration of intent, which offers numerous opportunities for academia and young people to increase their contribution to the country's prosperity, and for the University and the United Nations team in the country to further expand the collaboration," said Dr Rita Colombo, the UN Resident Coordinator.

The collaboration between the University and the United Nations will be realised through various forms, including the promotion of national expertise and research, the identification of best practices and accelerators, monitoring and analysis of data, public awareness campaigns, expert debate on sustainability, academic collaboration and student engagement through internships, volunteering and mentoring.
